Charity Shops

There are many charity shops in Inverness which all contain very good quality books, clothes, bric a brac etc. You can either donate goods or buy; either alternative stops waste.

  1. Charity Shops which spend their profits locally:

    • Blythswood

      Though a Christian organisation which primarily provides support to disadvantaged people overseas, they do also run the Highland Food Bank, the aim of which is to provide free emergency food for a three day period - mainly to people in Inverness.

      Supports the terminally ill and their families.

    • New Start Highland

      This charity provides "household items necessary to set up a home, valuable trainning to develop the confidence and skills required to enter employment and become more independent, whilst working towards zero waste in the Highlands." They also provide a free uplift service.

Highland Real Nappy Project

Highland Real Nappy Project promotes the environmental and cost-saving benefits of real nappies.
Starter Packs: They give a Starter Pack free to families using the Healthy Start Vouchers Scheme. Starter Packs include 6 different types of modern cloth nappy plus a range of accessories to let you give real nappies a go. They have a retail value of over £60, but they sell them at £10 or £5 concession.
Second hand nappies: They buy and sell second hand nappies.

Materials Accepted:

Cans, Car batteries, Cardboard, WEEE - Waste electrical and electronic equipment - any electrical item with a plug attached, or items operated by a battery. This includes everything from small items such as hairdryers, DVD players and battery operated toys to large items such as fridges, freezers, washing machines and televisions. It also includes fluorescent light tubes, standard light bulbs and energy efficient light bulbs. Engine oil, *Furniture, Garden waste, Gas cylinders, Glass bottles & jars, Monitors & TVs, Paper, **Plactic bottles, Rubble & Soil, Shoes, Scrap Metal, Shoes, Textiles, ***Tyres, White goods, Wood

*Furniture and household goods (including bric-a brac) can be donated to Newstart Highland for reuse by using the separate containers provided.

**Only bottles identified with a small triangle containing the number 1 or 2 will be accepted. Type 1 bottles (PET) are mainly used for fizzy drinks and Type 2 (HDPE) are used for milk and detergents.
